A Golden Opportunity

Have you seen those razor scooters? They’re shiny metal with tiny plastic wheels that move incredibly smoothly. A few years back, they were ridiculously expensive. These days, you can find them for about $20 (here’s the manufacturer’s website). Each of our kids has one, and they absolutely love them.

We even let them ride in the house, subject to two rules: they’re not allowed to run into anything or anyone; and they have to put them away when they’re done. Stepping on one of those things really hurts.

One day last week, I came downstairs to get a drink of water. As I was at the sink filling my glass, I noticed the three-year-old’s scooter lying on the den floor. Hearing him playing in his room, I gave a shout out to him to come put his scooter away.

Almost immediately, I saw him come running out to his room – completely naked and smiling like a pumpkin. He grabbed his scooter and started to get on, but his momma suddenly loomed out of nowhere, “you go get some clothes on right now, mister!”

“Hold on, momma!” I interrupted. “It’s not every day that you get a chance like this!”

She looked down at her naked son standing hopefully on his scooter, and then started to laugh. “Okay, okay!”

With a yahoo, the little guy took off, zooming around the house a few times before putting it away.

Hey, don’t look at me like that. When was the last time you had a chance to ride a scooter in the nude?
