When I Grow Up
One of the common topics of debate among 3 and 4 years olds is what they want to be when they grow up. Some want to be firemen, others astronauts, and so forth. I have stayed out of this particular discussion because I’m not sure I’m ready to hear the answer yet. After all, it might have something to do with the color pink.
Also, my fondest ambition when I was a little tyke was to be a hobo. I wanted to ride the rails and see the country, just me and my dog. I’m not sure how I would take to hearing that sort of thing from my child.
Nonetheless, some things are inevitable. We were sitting at dinner one day when J brought it up with the boys. She was talking about one of their friends, saying “Mikey wants to be an astronaut when he grows up, doesn’t he?”
“Yep!” N said.
“Not me, ” said C.
“No?” I asked, dreading the next line.
“Nope. When I grow up, I want to be a daddy!”
Awwww… Now doesn’t that just bring a tear to your eye?
Happy Labor Day everyone!
