Yes, well. Isn’t that nice?

C caught himself a bit of a sniffle on Friday. For those that don’t have kids, when a toddler gets a sniffle it’s not a polite little thing that is kept behind handkerchiefs. It’s a full-face juicy extravaganza of snuffling, honking and spray.

Very much because of that, Saturday morning found C getting some alone time with his toys. N was napping and the rest of us had all found jobs that urgently needed doing. Really, they did.

It wasn’t too long, however, before an eery quiet started emanating from C’s room.

In these sorts of situations, there are three basic strategies:
1. go find out what’s happening
2. try to convince your spouse to go find out what’s happening
3. pretend you don’t know what’s happening and outwait your spouse.

I chose option 3, and eventually my loving spouse obliged by calling out to the boy to inquire if he was okay.

He replied that yes, he was fine. This interaction was followed by more quiet. She inquired again. Yes, he was still fine. Finally, she used the magic phrase “what are you doing?”

“Oh, nothing. I’m just eating my boogers.”

Yes, well. Carry on then. I have work to do. Urgent work.
